Jordan Lulloff is a Chicago-based saxophonist that specializes in the performance of music by living composers. In addition to his solo engagements, Jordan is a founding member of ~Nois Quartet, a “prolific, charismatic young ensemble that is swiftly becoming the American saxophone quartet du jour” (Musical America).
A 2024 Luminarts Cultural Foundation Fellow in Classical Music, Jordan has been the featured soloist with the United States Air Force Band, University of Memphis Wind Ensemble, the University of Illinois Chicago Wind Ensemble, and the Lansing and Ann Arbor Community Concert Bands. Other performance honors include: Winner – VSA International Young Soloist Competition; First place – United States Air Force Band Colonel George S. Howard Young Artist Competition; and 2nd and 3rd place – MTNA National Performance Competition Senior Division.
An advocate of new music, Jordan has given over 140 world premieres to date. He has had the honor of working closely with some of the world’s leading voices in composition to create new works for saxophone including Viet Cuong, Alex Mincek, Jessie Montgomery, Nico Muhly, Shawn Okpebholo, David Maslanka, Jeff Scott, Hans Thomalla, Augusta Read Thomas, Darian Donovan Thomas, and Kari Watson. The collaborative spirit of music drives Jordan’s artistic output and has led to performances alongside Third Coast Percussion, Sō Percussion, the Bang on a Can All-Stars, Eighth Blackbird, and his father, Joseph Lulloff.
As the Tenor Saxophonist and Executive Director of ~Nois, Jordan performs extensively in the Chicago area and across the United States. ~Nois is in demand as a guest artist and lecturer at universities across the nation having held residencies at over 75 academic institutions. ~Nois has presented over 200 performances in their nine years of music-making with performances spanning 28 states, including invitations to perform at some of the top festivals and concert series in the nation, including LONG PLAY, Princeton Sound Kitchen, and the University of Chicago Presents Series. Heralded as “fiendishly good” (Chicago Tribune), their recorded output boasts over 10 commercial releases and has amassed over 1 million streams worldwide.
In addition to his robust performing career, Jordan is an active arts administrator. As the general manager of Space Presents, Jordan presents an annual series of boutique music festivals and concerts across the north shore of Chicago. These events – the Evanston Folk Festival, Winnetka Music Festival, Out of Space, and Space Presents at Cahn Aud – amass an annual attendee count of over 50 thousand. He has had the honor of presenting concerts by Elvis Costello, Jeff Tweedy, Patti Smith, Mavis Staples, Liz Phair, Emmylou Harris, Los Lobos, Caamp, Big Boi, The Indigo Girls, Katie Gavin, Sierra Ferrell, Natasha Bedingfield, and many more.
Jordan completed his bachelor’s degree in saxophone performance and a minor in jazz studies at Michigan State University, where he studied with Joseph Lulloff. He completed his master’s degree in saxophone performance at Northwestern University, where he studied with Taimur Sullivan. He currently serves as Applied Instructor of Classical Saxophone at The University of Illinois Chicago. Jordan performs on Yamaha saxophones exclusively.
