Ink, Punk and Guitars

Tokyo Hiro teams up with Yamaha to create a custom Revstar.

Last year’s NAMM Show was marked by a spate of exciting new product announcements, along with some awesome special events. Chief among these was the unveiling of a hand-painted custom Yamaha Revstar guitar as part of a collaboration between iconic tattoo artist Tokyo Hiro and designer/luthier Pat Campolattano.

The guitar was no ordinary production model. It was built from hand-selected tonewoods, unique hardware and high-end electronics, with artwork hand-painted by Hiro. Custom features included a Champagne Gold metallic nitro finish, along with a hand-carved scalloped bone nut, Kluson tuners, a Thorn Staple Top GT90 bridge pickup and Jescar stainless steel frets.

And here’s exciting news: The guitar will be on display at Winter NAMM again this year — and between now and January 31, 2018, we’re offering a sweepstakes that gives you the chance to win your own one-of-a-kind Tokyo Hiro Revstar!

About Tokyo Hiro

Hiro, who was born in 1973 in Tokyo, Japan, is clearly a product of the second wave of the punk rock movement. It was through this music and style that he received his first exposure to the tattoo culture at the tender age of 14, because let’s face it — tattoos and punk rock go hand-in-hand. In almost no time he was using jailhouse machines to tattoo his friends, but it was a fateful meeting with world famous tattoo artist Bob Roberts that set the wheels in motion for his career. Soon after, Hiro found himself in Los Angeles under the apprenticeship of Roberts at his legendary Spotlight Tattoo shop.

Hiro currently resides in Southern California, working out of his private studio and focusing extensively on designing merchandise and album art work for some of today’s top rock acts, in addition to crafting designs on shin guards for professional soccer players worldwide with Campari. 20 years into his career, his philosophy hasn’t changed much — it’s all about executing traditional tattoos the right way, playing the guitar his way and listening to good punk rock, heavy metal and country music.
