ABOUT

Anthony Robinson has served as Adjunct Professor of Percussion at East Texas Baptist University (ETBU) of Marshall, Texas since 1993. While serving in this position he was also Percussion Specialist/Assistant Band Director for the Marshall Independent School District’s Band Program for 25 years; then, he served another 5 years as Fine Arts Coordinator/Director of Bands for the District before retiring in 2007.

After retirement Mr. Robinson continued teaching at ETBU and served as Percussion Specialist for Texas band programs in Pittsburg ISD. White Oak ISD, Henderson ISD, and Spring Hill ISD. Mr. Robinson also served as Percussion Instructor at Kilgore College for 1 year and Wiley University (then, Wiley College) for 7 years.

An active professional, Mr. Robinson completed his 46th season as percussionist with Louisiana’s oldest symphony orchestra, The Shreveport Symphony, in the 2023-2024 season. Additional orchestral performances includes 45 years with the Longview Symphony, 44 years with the Marshall Symphony, and 38 years with the South Arkansas Symphony. Performances with these organizations have allowed him to share the stage with Ray Charles, Dudley Moore, The Temptations, Robert Merrill, Robert Flack, Shari Lewis, Itzhak Perlman, Janos Starker, Marvin Hamlisch, Smokey Robinson, Kathy Mattea, Helen Reddy, Judy Collins, and many others.

Mr. Robinson is also a United States Veteran whose military experience includes serving as a combat engineer with the 307th RED HORSE Squadron of Barksdale Air Force Base (20 years, Air Force Reserve) and First Sergeant/ Principal Percussionist for the 531St Air Force Band of Fort Worth (14 years, Air National Guard). His military service included deployments after hurricanes Katrina and Rita for Humanitarian Aid and deployments for war during Operations Desert Storm Iraqi Freedom. He was awarded the Air Force Commendation Medal four times, the Air Force Meritorious Service Medal four times and, the Global War On Terrorism Medal.

An active member of the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA), Mr. Robinson began serving as Percussion Organizer/Clinician for the Texas All State Bands and orchestras in 1990 and continued to work in this capacity for 32 years. He retired from this duty at the conclusion of the 2023 TMEA Convention.

Mr. Robinson was inducted into the Creative and Performing Arts Hall of Fame of his alma mater, Northwestern State University, in 2020 and was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award in education by the Percussive Arts Society in 2022.

Mr. Robinson is a 1971 graduate of Pineville High School of Pineville, Louisiana, a 1975 graduate of Northwestern State University where he received his Bachelor of Music Education, a 1985 graduate of East Texas State University where he received his Master of Education, and was pursuing a PhD at Louisiana State University before getting activated for war in 1991. Mr. Robinson’s percussion instructors were the late Dr. John Raush of Northwestern State University, Dr. Don Keipp of Northwestern State University, Mr. Eddy Kozak of Centenary College of Shreveport, and the late Milt Jackson formerly of the Modern Jazz Quartet.
