ABOUT

Carolyn J. Bryan has been Professor of Music at Georgia Southern University since 1997. Dr. Bryan has performed and lectured at meetings of the World Saxophone Congress, the Southeastern Saxophone Symposium, the North American Saxophone Alliance, the Toronto International Electroacoustic Symposium, the American Choral Directors Association, and the Festival of Women Composers International. She has commissioned several works for voice and saxophone, performs as part of a saxophone duo, and is especially interested in music for choir and saxophone. Bryan has been involved in numerous orchestral, chamber, and solo premiers and recorded with the Savannah Jazz Orchestra on Satin Doll, and The Winds of Indiana on Eugene Rousseau’s CD Saxophone Vocalise. She has also served as a conductor for GS Opera, leading performances of Die Fledermaus, Company, and Amahl and the Night Visitors. She has been recognized with the GSU College of Liberal Arts Award for Excellence, Awards of Distinction in Teaching and Service, and membership in Phi Kappa Phi and Pi Kappa Lambda. Bryan holds a Bachelor of Music Education from Baldwin-Wallace College and the Master and Doctor of Music from Indiana University. Her primary teachers were Galan Kral, Daniel Deffayet, and Eugene Rousseau. Dr. Bryan is a Yamaha Performing Artist and Légère Endorsing Artist.
