Paul Millette

ABOUT

Dr. Paul Millette (he/him) is a San Antonio–based percussionist, composer, and educator whose work spans chamber music, improvisation, orchestral performance, and contemporary music. Millette currently serves as Assistant Professor of Practice in Percussion at the University of Texas at San Antonio where he teaches applied percussion, percussion pedagogy/literature, and chamber music. His commitment to community engagement extends to his work with the percussion program at Harlan High School and his frequent masterclasses at universities nationwide.

Millette’s performance career reaches across a wide spectrum of musical genres and stylistic traditions. Recent professional engagements include performances with the United States Air Force Band of the West, Density512, and the Mid-Texas Symphony. As a chamber musician, Paul frequently performs with the free-improvisation groups Noise Floor and Bongo Funhouse, as well as in the Sjel Duo with saxophonist Dr. Sarah Hetrick. He has recorded with the Naxos, Summit Records, and Toccata Classics labels.

Paul’s compositions for percussion are published through C. Alan, Tapspace, and Wildlight Publications. Millette’s original works have been performed across the United States at major festivals and conventions, including the Percussive Arts Society International Convention, Music for All Festival, and the Victoria Bach Festival. His music has also reached audiences in Japan, Australia, and South Korea.

Millette holds degrees from Texas Tech University, the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, and the University of North Dakota, with degrees in percussion performance and secondary study in composition. His primary teachers include Michael Blake, Kevin Bobo, Don Freund, Christopher Gable, Mike Mixtacki, Lisa Rogers, Michael Spiro, John Tafoya, and Andy Miller.
