If you have ever seen one of Joey’s music videos or live shows, you understand that he is the heart and soul of his unit. Joey brings his musical knowledge and life experiences with sheer energy and no holding back. A highly respected drummer in the Latin/Regional Mexican music arena, he began his musical journey at the early age of 2, discovering his love and passion for drums.
By age 5, Joey was already playing drums professionally, and by 9, he was performing, recording, and touring with Grammy-winning artists Selena and Chris Pérez. In his 40-year professional drumming career, Joey has learned to be prepared for every possible event. He has performed in legendary venues across Latin America, such as Palacio de los Deportes, Auditorio Nacional, Foro Sol, and Arena Monterrey, as well as massive stadiums and arenas throughout the U.S., including the Staples Center and AT&T Center. Along his travels, Joey has played with Xelencia, A.B. Quintanilla III y Los Kumbia Kings/All-Starz, and Selena y Los Dinos while also working with Vanilla Ice and other renowned artists.
From 2011 to 2019, Joey enjoyed a successful career with Latin Grammy Award winners SIGGNO, recording six albums and touring extensively throughout the U.S. and Mexico. In 2016, their album Yo Te Esperaré reached #1 on the Billboard Latin charts, and in 2017, Siggno broke the all-time paid attendance record at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, performing in front of 75,557 people.
While touring with Texas Country Outlaw Koe Wetzel, Grupo Metál, and Louie The Singer, Joey decided to embark on a new project that had been in his heart for years. As a lifelong fan of Tejano music legends La Mafia…one of the most influential bands in the genre, with over 30 million records sold worldwide…he wanted to show his appreciation and love for their music in a meaningful way. In 2024, he founded Loca Pasión, the official tribute to La Mafia, dedicated to recreating the energy and experience of their iconic 80s and 90s performances.
On January 1, 2025, the official announcement was made, and just weeks later, Loca Pasión released its debut five-song EP, Loca Pasión Live Sessions. The EP debuted at #3 on the iTunes charts and quickly climbed to #1, solidifying the band’s presence in the Tejano music scene. Since then, Loca Pasión has received overwhelming support, bringing fans the classic hits of La Mafia that are rarely performed live.
Today, whether he’s performing Tejano, rock, or regional Mexican music, Joey never shies away from any sound or genre…always bringing his high-energy, dynamic approach to every stage.
