ABOUT

Dr. David Steffens is currently Dean of the College of Fine Arts at Eastern New Mexico University. His previous roles included Director of the Purdue University Fort Wayne School of Music, Professor of Percussion at Oklahoma City University’s Bass School of Music, Principal Percussionist of the Oklahoma City Philharmonic Orchestra, percussionist for Oklahoma Lyric Theater, a member of the Tulsa Symphony Orchestra, and a percussionist for numerous nationally touring Broadway shows. He holds a Bachelor of Music from Central Michigan University, a Master of Music from Michigan State University, and a Performer’s Certificate and Doctor of Musical Arts from the Eastman School of Music. Dr. Steffens has been Principal Percussionist of the Midland Symphony, Principal Timpanist of the West Shore Symphony Orchestra, a member of the Greater Lansing Symphony, and a member of the Schlossfestspiele in Heidelberg, Germany.

He is a founding member of the Robert Hohner Percussion Ensemble, and can be heard on several internationally released albums on Digital Music Products record label and Albany Records record label. Dr. Steffens also has served as percussion artist and faculty for the Oklahoma Summer Arts Institute, the Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp, and as a judge for the Great Plains International Marimba Competition.
