Douglas Wilson is a trumpet player who excels in a variety of musical styles, including classical, commercial, and early music. A frequent guest clinician throughout the United States, he has performed for audiences in Europe, Asia, and the Caribbean with numerous performances at Lincoln Center, The Kennedy Center, and the Washington National Cathedral.
Dr. Wilson’s performing affiliations include the New Haven Symphony, Solisti New York, Norfolk Chamber Music Festival Orchestra at Yale, Oklahoma City Philharmonic, Tulsa Philharmonic Orchestra, Maryland Symphony, Fairfax (VA) Symphonic Orchestra, and the Tulsa (OK) Signature Symphony. Early music performances include Fanfare Barok (Founding Director), Tempesta Di Mare, North Carolina Baroque Orchestra, Washington Bach Consort, and guest artist with the Shenandoah Conservatory of Music’s Bach-Handel Festival.
A life-long learner, Dr. Wilson received his master’s degree from Yale University and his doctoral degree from The University of Oklahoma School of Music with continuing early music studies at Oberlin’s Baroque Performance Institute with Barry Bauguess. His principal teachers include Robert Nagel of the New York Brass Quintet and Dr. Jacob Larson.
Dr. Wilson has enjoyed a long career as a music educator in Oklahoma and Virginia while also touching the lives of young musicians as past moderator of the global web forum Ask the Teacher and past editor and contributor to the journal jr. for the International Trumpet Guild. He also served as an adjudicator for the National Trumpet Competition for many years. Dr. Wilson currently lives in Columbus Ohio.
