Ed Hartman has recorded and performed with numerous bands, orchestras and dance/theatre companies, including Eric Tingstad, Nancy Rumbel, Tickle Tune Typhoon, and Ellipsis. As a soloist, he has performed at Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall in New York City. His own group, The Olympic Marimba Band, has performed extensively throughout the Pacific Northwest. Originally from Evanston, Illinois, Ed started his music career studying with Fred Silve and Al Skinner. He was also influenced by percussion instructors Dan Spaulding and Randy Hogancamp from Northwestern University. Don Owens was another exceptional compositional influence (jazz band, contemporary music ensemble, and electronic music instructor). Ed received a degree in percussion from Indiana University, studying with Richard Johnson. Ed has written articles, sheet music, and books about music through Olympic Publications, and his albums The River, Northwest Passage, Marimbells of Christmas and Wood, and Metal Music have received national critical acclaim. As an award-winning composer, Ed has scored music for film, television, radio, and even a planetarium. He has scored features, shorts and documentaries, including As The Earth Turns, The Scalpel, Fitz, The Son, The Father, It Gets in Your Blood, and DACA – The Story of Dreamers. His music has been heard in many films and television shows including, The Blind Side, The Cold Light of Day, Minis First Time, Scooby Doo, The Mystery Begins, Stranger Things, The Twilight Zone, Lucifer, Ransom Canyon, and Brooklyn Nine-Nine.
