Jan Fillmore Scott has performed as a recitalist, clinician, and soloist throughout the United States. She retired in 2025 as principal clarinet with the Lake Charles Symphony and the Rapides Symphony Orchestra in Louisiana, and has performed with the Louisville Orchestra, Louisville Ballet, Indiana Chamber Orchestra, Fort Wayne Philharmonic, Midland-Odessa Symphony, Acadiana Symphony, and the Symphony of Southeast Texas. She is a Yamaha Performing Artist and a past adjudicator for the ICA’s Young Artist Competition. Ms. Scott has recorded with Innova and Centaur Labels, and her performances have been heard on NPR, allowing the audience to hear the clarinet in a new, exciting medium.
Ms. Scott retired in 2020 with over 40 years of teaching and performing, with the last 30 years in higher education. During her tenure at McNeese State University, she taught applied woodwinds, woodwind techniques/pedagogy, and developed a one-of-a-kind Service-Learning program. She received the Pinnacle Award for her innovative work, “Integrating Service-Learning into the Beginning Woodwind Class.” Ms. Scott’s book, Beginning Woodwind Class: A Manual for College and Middle School Classrooms, available on Amazon, is a culmination of her development of the service-learning model.
Jan is a founding member of Pastiche Chamber Ensemble, acclaimed internationally for its talent and polish. This whimsical quartet has been involved in expanding the repertoire with new commissions. She holds degrees from the University of North Texas and the University of Louisville.
When not making music, Jan enjoys hiking with her husband Dave in her favorite Rocky Mountains and spending time with their daughter Robin.
