ABOUT

Jason Bergman is an American trumpeter and educator, currently Professor of Music in Trumpet at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, a position he has held since 2022. A versatile performer, he has appeared across the United States, South America, Europe, and China, earning recognition for his artistry as both an orchestral musician and soloist.

Bergman began his orchestral career in 2008 as Associate Principal Trumpet of the Santiago Philharmonic in Chile and later held principal positions with the Mobile Symphony Orchestra and Mobile Opera. He has also performed with the Utah, Milwaukee, Indianapolis, Dallas, and Fort Worth symphonies, the Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra, and the Dallas Winds on their Grammy-nominated recording of John Williams’s music. Additional collaborations include performances with the Canadian Brass, Rhythm & Brass, and an appearance at Carnegie Hall with conductor David Robertson as part of the Weill Music Institute. He was also a fellow at the Music Academy of the West.

As a soloist and clinician, Bergman has appeared with ensembles such as the Royal Belgian Air Force Band, Mahidol Brass Band, Garland Symphony Orchestra, Timpanogos Symphony, and the Beijing Central Conservatory Wind Ensemble. He has presented recitals and master classes at institutions worldwide and has been featured at major conferences, including the Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic, Texas Music Educators Association, College Music Society, International Tuba and Euphonium Conference, and the International Trumpet Guild.

Dedicated to education, Bergman has taught at the Idyllwild Chamber Fest, Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp, and Grand Valley International Trumpet Seminar, as well as at festivals in Brazil, Peru, and across South America. Prior to joining the Indiana University faculty, he taught at the University of North Texas and the University of Southern Mississippi, where he received the Class of ’49 Young Scholar Award and the Nina Bell Suggs Endowed Professorship.

A leader in the trumpet community, Bergman served as President of the International Trumpet Guild (2021–2023) and previously on its Board of Directors. He is a frequent adjudicator for the National Trumpet Competition, which he hosted in 2018, and co-hosted the 2021 Ellsworth Smith International Trumpet Competition in Dublin, Ireland.

His scholarly work includes contributions to the Grove Dictionary of American Music and editorial projects for the International Trumpet Guild Journal . As a recording artist, he has released three solo albums on the MSR Classics label, featuring numerous world premieres, as well as a chamber album with Brassworks.

He is a Yamaha Performing Artist and performs exclusively on Yamaha trumpets.
