Dr. Jeffrey Barudin is a dynamic and innovative percussion performer and pedagogue. Based in Philadelphia, he has performed with a range of acclaimed ensembles, most recently the Philadelphia Wind Symphony and the Atlantic Brass Band. He also maintains an internationally recognized website that features extensive, up-to-date listings of percussion-based teaching and performance opportunities. This resource has quickly become the most widely used and trusted online platform for percussion employment.
Dr. Barudin has appeared as a concerto soloist with the St. Louis Civic Orchestra and the Town & Country Symphony Orchestra (MO), and has performed at numerous Percussive Arts Society conferences and events. His playing can be heard on several commercially released recordings, including the Grammy-winning Songs of Innocence and Experience, composed by William Bolcom and conducted by Leonard Slatkin. He has collaborated with prominent composers, including Michael Daugherty on his timpani concerto Raise the Roof and Bright Sheng on his marimba concerto Colors of Crimson.
His compositions for concert band and percussion ensemble are published by Innovative Percussion Publications, Heartland Marimba Publications, and C. Alan Publications. His pedagogical research focuses on sight-reading and rhythmic development, the psychology of today’s music students, and the application of percussion pedagogy in band settings. This work has led to multiple publications in Percussive Notes and the Percussive Arts Society Educators Companion, and has been the subject of clinics at numerous state and national conferences.
Dr. Barudin currently serves as Director of Instrumental Music and Chair of the Arts Department at Abington Friends School in Jenkintown, PA. He is also on the percussion faculty at the Settlement Music School and teaches at Maryville University. He holds a DMA and MM from the University of Michigan and a BS in Music Education from Penn State University. He is a proud Yamaha Performing Artist and endorses Sabian cymbals and Innovative Percussion mallets and products.
