Jerome Rose, hailed as “the Last Romantic of our own age,” is one of America’s most distinguished pianists, with performances spanning major concert halls across five continents. A Gold Medalist of the International Busoni Competition, he launched his international career in his early twenties and has since performed with prestigious orchestras including the Berlin Philharmonic, Munich Philharmonic, Vienna Symphony, and the Chicago, San Francisco, and Atlanta Symphonies, under conductors such as Sir Georg Solti, Wolfgang Sawallisch, and Christian Thielemann.
Rose’s extensive discography on Medici Classics includes the Liszt Concerti with the Budapest Philharmonic, Transcendental Etudes, Complete Schumann Sonatas, Davidsbundlertanze, Kreisleriana, Beethoven’s last three sonatas, and Chopin’s Ballades and Fantasy. His acclaimed Liszt recordings also include the B minor Sonata, Don Juan Fantasy, Mephisto Waltz, and Years of Pilgrimage (Prix du Disque). His DVD and Blu-ray releases feature works by Beethoven, Chopin, Schumann, Brahms, Liszt, and Schubert, earning critical praise worldwide.
Notable recent releases include the multi-episode video series The Artist at Home, featuring works by Chopin, Beethoven, Schubert, Rachmaninov, and Brahms, and For the Young Virtuoso, a four-volume anthology of intermediate-level piano works with master lessons. His Vox Liszt recordings received the Grand Prix du Disque from the Liszt Society of Budapest, and in recognition of his contributions to the 1986 Liszt Centennial Celebration in Washington, D.C., the Ministry of Culture of Hungary awarded him the Franz Liszt Medal.
A graduate of Mannes College and The Juilliard School, Rose studied with Adolph Baller, Leonard Shure, and Rudolf Serkin. He debuted at age 15 with the San Francisco Symphony and was later awarded a Fulbright Scholarship to study in Vienna. He was also a winner of the Concert Artists Guild competition.
Rose has presented masterclasses at the Paris and Moscow Conservatories, Chopin Academy in Warsaw, Salzburg Mozarteum, Toho Conservatory in Tokyo, and Reina Sofía School in Madrid. He serves on the faculty at Mannes School of Music and is the Founder and Director of the International Keyboard Institute & Festival in New York City, where his performances have been recorded for WFMT Chicago and NPR.
A respected educator, he has taught at Hunter College, the City University of New York, and Mannes. He has also served on the faculties of the Ecole Normale de Musique in Paris, Tel-Hai Festival in Israel, and the Duszniki Chopin Festival in Poland. He is frequently invited to serve as a juror for international competitions including the Busoni, Hamamatsu, Santander, Maria Canals, Chopin, and Liszt competitions, among others.
His recent and upcoming activities include recitals, masterclasses, and educational outreach across the U.S., Europe, China, Brazil, Vietnam, and the Philippines. In recognition of his lifetime contribution to the field of music, Mr. Rose was awarded an Honorary Doctorate in Music from the State University of New York.
