Kennan Wylie holds a bachelor’s and master’s degree in music education from the University of North Texas. He was an adjunct professor of percussion at University of Arlington for ten years and is currently the Percussion Instructor at Marcus High School in Flower Mound, Texas. Under his direction for over 30 years, the Marcus group has received national acclaim both on and off the field, including eleven national championship titles at the PASIC Marching Competition as well as top percussion at the Texas State UIL Marching Contest in 2021, 2023, and 2024. Marcus High School also won the 1999, 2003, and 2011 PAS “Call for Tapes”. The group has performed at the Midwest Clinic in 2006 and 2018, and at TMEA as the Honor Percussion Ensemble in 2020 and 2025.
His publication, K. Wylie Publications, has a full line of beginning percussionist instructional books, solos, and ensembles, including an instructional series he wrote titled Simple Steps.
He has presented clinics at the Texas Music Educators Association convention, Midwest Clinic, Texas Bandmasters Association, and Percussive Arts Society International Convention (PASIC). He served as president of the Texas Percussive Arts Society from 2011-2017. Wylie is the author of the newly released Hal Leonard Complete Drum Set Method.
