ABOUT

Performer, conductor, and composer Dr. Nicholaus Meyers is a voting member of the Recording Academy/GRAMMYs, and currently Director of Bands and Percussion and Chair of the Department of Performing Arts at East Central University in Ada, Oklahoma. Dr. Meyers directs the ECU “Pride of Tigerland” marching band, wind ensemble, and percussion ensemble, and teaches applied percussion, conducting, and other courses in the music education sequence. Before coming to ECU, he was the Assistant Director of Athletic Bands at North Dakota State University in Fargo, North Dakota and Director of Bands, Percussion, and Composition at Valley City State University in Valley City, North Dakota. Additionally, he performed with the Fargo-Moorhead Symphony Orchestra and Greater Grand Forks Symphony Orchestra. He also serves as a faculty member at IMC (International Music Camp).

Dr. Meyers also taught at Augusta State University and Troy University. He taught for nearly a decade as the Assistant Director of Bands at Lakeside High school in Evans, Georgia which is considered to be one of the top 6A high school music programs in the state. He has also performed with the Augusta Symphony, Augusta Opera, Augusta Players, Augusta Chorale Society, Greater Grand Forks Symphony, Oak Ridge Symphony, and Fort Gordon Dinner Theater, along with being on the sub list for many orchestras in America and Europe. Dr. Meyers keeps an active schedule giving masterclasses, discussions, adjudicating, serving as an honor band clinician and performing.

Dr. Meyers is also a commissioned composer and arranger with over 70 original compositions and over 30 arrangements. His music has been performed both nationally and internationally. His works are published through several professional publishing companies and through his website.

Currently, he is the Oklahoma Percussive Arts Society Chapter President and past Chair of the Oklahoma Intercollegiate Honor Band, past Chair of the Percussive Arts Society Composition Committee, and past President of the Percussive Arts Society North Dakota Chapter. Further memberships include the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers (ASCAP), Percussive Arts Society (PAS), and the College Band Directors National Association (CBDNA). He is also an Honorary member of Kappa Kappa Psi – Gamma Theta Chapter.

Dr. Meyers received his Bachelor of Music from Augusta State University, Master of Music from the University of Tennessee, and Doctor of Musical Arts from North Dakota State University. Throughout all three degrees he studied percussion, composition, and conducting. He was fortunate enough to have studied with Dr. David Maslanka before his passing. Additionally, he studied at the University of Georgia and had an internship in Oslo, Norway with Principal Percussionist Christian Berg of the Oslo Philharmonic.
