Petrea Warneck

ABOUT

Oboist Petrea Warneck performs extensively throughout the Carolinas as an orchestral and chamber musician. She is a member of South Carolina Philharmonic and also performs with the Greenville Symphony Orchestra and the Asheville Symphony Orchestra. She has a distinguished reputation as an oboe instructor in the southeast. Covering the Carolinas from east to west, she has a private studio in Greenville, and recently retired from a wonderful 22+ year career as the oboe instructor at Furman University and the SC Governor’s School for the Arts in Greenville, SC. Throughout her career, Ms. Warneck has been passionately involved in the performance of new music for her instrument. Among other premieres and commissions, she commissioned a work for solo oboe by Mark Kilstofte entitled Inner Voices, which she premiered at the International Double Reed Society Conference in Ithaca, NY. The piece is a tribute to the legendary oboist John Mack, former Principal Oboist of the Cleveland Orchestra and Ms. Warneck’s teacher and mentor of over 25 years. She credits his influence and teaching pedagogy for her continual development as a musician and educator throughout her career. Dedicated to the health and wellness of performing artists, Ms. Warneck is a devoted advocate of the importance of the mind-body connection. Her interests and skills in this work led her to the study of the Alexander Technique, which began over 25 years ago. She is now a Certified Teacher of the Alexander Technique through Alexander Technique International. Ms. Warneck is a Yamaha Performing Artist and has, for over 20 years, been proud to perform exclusively on Yamaha Professional oboes. She is also a strong advocate for the intermediate models for her younger students.
