ABOUT

Trombonist, arranger, and multi-instrumentalist Raymond Mason has built a career that spans pop tours, recording sessions, and experimental projects. A New York native with roots in Nashville and Los Angeles, Ray and has appeared on stages such as the GRAMMY Awards, the Super Bowl Halftime Show, the Oscars, and Saturday Night Live.

Mason’s credits include work with Taylor Swift, Bon Iver, Lauren Daigle, Elvis Costello, GRiZ, The Roots, and Antibalas. His trombone can be heard on Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars’ Uptown Funk (GRAMMY Award for Record of the Year) as well as recordings for Norah Jones, Lizzo, Mac Miller, The Black Keys, and most recently on Ed Sheeran’s The Vow. Known for both his playing and his arranging he often leads sections in the studio and on the road.

Beyond his sideman work, Mason co-leads Wild Iris Brass Band with Jeff Coffin as well as various improvisatory groups in NYC, Nashville, and LA.

Mason also teaches at the Silverlake Conservatory of Music, where he shares his blend of tradition and experimentation with the next generation of brass players.

He performs on the Yamaha YSL-891ZD and a customized YBL-612 bass trombone.
